BOSTON CREEK FALLS

RATING - 7/10

TYPE OF APPROACH - Roadside

DIFFICULTY - Fairly Easy

LOCATION - Cascade Pass Area

TYPE - Tiered

HEIGHT - 1600'

WIDTH - 75'

Boston Creek Falls is located along the Cascade River Road.   It is one of many very large waterfalls in the area but like most, only parts of the falls can be seen easily.  The 500' main section alone is a very worthy waterfall.  Floods ravaged Boston Creek in the winter of 2009 making an unseemly mess near the road.  However, the floods also cleared a view of a previously unseen plunge located right next to the main drop.  This drop is at least 200' straight down and looks really impressive from the road.  I was already planning on trying to get a closer view by climbing up the creek so this was the clincher for me.  I suspect there may be another drop below the 200' plunge where another tributary drops into the canyon but I won't be able to confirm it until I climb in there myself (hopefully next summer).

DIRECTIONS - Drive east on Highway 20 from Sedro-Woolley to the town of Marblemount.  When the road turns to the left, head straight across the bridge over the Skagit River onto Cascade River Road.  The road crosses over Boston Creek at about 21 3/4 miles.  The lower section of the falls can be seen from here.  Walking along the road reveals views of high portions of the falls.
